　　Embracing otherness. When I first heard this theme, I thought, well, embracing otherness is embracing myself. And the journey to that place of understanding and acceptance has been an interesting one for me, and its given me an insight into the whole notion of self, which I think is worth sharing with you today.We each have a self, but I dont think that were born with one. You know how newborn babies believe theyre part of everything; theyre not separate? Well that fundamental sense of oneness is lost on us very quickly. Its like that initial stage is over oneness: infancy, unformed, primitive. Its no longer valid or real. What is real is separateness, and at some point in early babyhood, the idea of self starts to form.

　　But in retrospect, the destruction of my self was so repetitive that I started to see a pattern. The self changed, got affected, broken, destroyed, but another one would evolve sometimes stronger, sometimes hateful, sometimes not wanting to be there at all.The self was not constant. And how many timeswould my self have to die before I realized that it was never alive in the first place? I grew up on the coast of England in the 70s. My dad is white from Cornwall, and my mom is black from Zimbabwe. Even the idea of us as a family was challenging to most people. But nature had its wicked way, and brown babies were born. But from about the age of five, I was aware that I didnt fit. I was the black atheist kid in the allwhite Catholic school run by nuns.I was an anomaly, and my self was rooting around for definition and trying to plug in. Because the self likes to fit, to see itself replicated, to belong. That confirms its existence and its importance. And it is important.

　　热忱欢迎你们的到来，共同研讨交流英语课的教学，提升我市英语学科的备考教学水平。在此，我代表丰收学校全体师生员工，感谢市教科中心对我校的厚爱，给了我校一个和兄弟学校之间相互交流学习共同提高的机会，并请各位多多包涵我校由于自身条件的制约而带来的诸多服务不周的地方。

　　同兄弟学校备考措施比较起来，丰收学校算不上优秀，也还存在一定的差距。受市教科中心董老师的委派，要在这里谈备考经验，实有班门弄斧之嫌，因为我们也只是做了一些应该做的工作。下面就我校英语学科在过去的一年里，在备考方面的一些粗浅做法和肤浅认识向在座的各位作一下汇报。

　　一、细化到人，确立目标。历年来，丰收学校招收的初中新生中，较优秀的很少，大部分学生的.英语基础较差，有的甚至几乎为零，给初中教师的教学增加了不小的阻力和困难。20xx年秋，学校共招生4个班。通过2年的教学，在20xx年春的八年级英语抽考中，获得了好成绩，给了我们莫大的鼓舞，也让我们看到了希望。升入九年级后，我们仔细地分析学生的现状，制定出这一年的奋斗目标。确保30人以上优分，80人以上及格，低分控制在每班4人左右，整体位次往前推进2名。一年来，我们一直向这一目标奋进。在荆州市的两次质检中获得了在松滋市近30所初中前三分之一位次的好成绩，20xx年中考成绩揭晓后，我们认真地比照数据，也都达到了我们期初设定的目标。

　　二、分类落实，达成目标。纵观丰收学校的历年中考备考，老师们都很努力，但效果却不是很理想。究其原因，主要是尾巴太重，也就是低分多。低分多了，不仅影响低分控制率，还对平均分有很大的影响，更要命的是它直接影响教师的工作热情和学生的学习积极性，进而牵扯到课堂纪律。一年来，我们不遗余力地打一场歼灭低分备考战。从以下方面着手：

　　1、要求学生练字，减少不必要的丢分。得低分的学生大都字迹潦草，辨认不清。根据这一实际，我们要求学生每周练字两次，每次以作业本一面的量为宜，教师全批全评，一周一小结，一月一总结。通过练字，学生的书写速度与卷面整洁度都有较大提升。

　　2、落实基础知识，提高基本技能。英语成绩不稳定的同学都有个通病，基本短语记不牢，句型结构易混淆。针对这一情况，我们把考纲要求的短语词汇分类汇编成两套或多套下发，一套供学生阅读识记，一套供学生检查过关。此外，我们还要求学生在备考复习中做笔记，做作业，对学生在训练检测中涉及到的短语搭配、句型结构方面的错误，不仅要重做，还要写清楚理由。通过这一形式，学生的基础逐步稳固了，成绩逐渐提高了，自信心也就慢慢上来了。

　　3、改革书面表达训练方式，提高应试技巧。害怕写书面表达，是大多数学生的通病。有的确实是基础差，难以动笔；有的是因为心理上原因，害怕写错。对此，我们采取：

　　①鼓励学生动笔写，能写对一个要点就是胜利。

　　②指导学生学会自己修改书面表达。每次考试后，将不同层次的学生书面表达3-4篇汇总后印发，找出里面的错误进行集中修改订正，给出分数。修改完毕后，再告知作者，并指出哪些错误是可以变通避免的，怎样做还可以多得1分等，让他们觉得自己也是行的。

　　③根据考纲要求的话题，我们精心组织了29篇英语书面表达范文印发给学生背诵，让他们在考试中套用仿写。

　　事实表明，我们的方法很凑效，考试中，书面表达题不动笔的几乎没有，最差的学生都能得3-4分，有的学生在考试中甚至优先完成书面表达题。

　　三、团结协作，提升目标。到了九年级，学生基本定型，偏科现象日益显现。有的学生对于某一学科的喜好，认真度甚至取决于（他）她对这一学科教师的好感。因而学科教师获得学生的信任，对于提升本学科的质量有不可轻视的作用。由于诸多方面原因，学生每升一级，学校都要对学生重新洗牌编班。三年下来，教师基本都认识全校的大部分学生。一年里，我们不仅在备考研究中，发挥了团结协作的精神，在鼓舞学生，消除不利于英语学科备考的消极因素方面也是精诚团结、协调合作。因为我们深知，只有班级目标达成了，学科整体目标才能达成。在平时的工作中，不仅关注本班学生，也关爱他班学生，哪怕是一句简单的鼓励，一个寻常的问候，都会滋生浓浓的暖意，激励学生努力奋进。尤其是到了备考冲刺阶段，学生思想负担重，抵触情绪大，难免会有一些意想不到的情况，正确化解师生矛盾更是事关全局，每每这时，许老师负责女生思想沟通，我负责男生理解配合。正是这种多方位，立体式的合作，学生在上英语课时，一般纪律较好，学英语的干劲和兴趣也较足，来势越来越好。真可谓，教师给学生一个机会，学生还教师一个奇迹。

　　天道酬勤，有耕耘就有收获。过去的一年里，丰收学校在英语备考教学上取得的一些成绩，和探索出的一些路子，都是上级领导对我校的正确领导和得力指导的结果，也是英语教师不畏困难，默默无闻、辛勤工作汗水的结晶。“雄关漫道真如铁，而今迈步从头越”，丰收学校将把今天的成绩作为新的起点，借这次教研会的东风，和兄弟学校一道努力，细化常规，强化研究，抓实备考，为全市的英语教学作出新的贡献。

Or who we really want to be, or should be?So this whole interaction with self and identity was a very difficult one for me growing up. The self that I attempted to take out into the world was rejected over and over again. And my panic at not having a self that fit, and the confusion that came from my self being rejected, created anxiety, shame and hopelessness, which kind of defined me for a long time.

In each of these accidents heavy casualties were reported – houses were burned down students lost their lives and properties were damaged. Faced with such a chilling fact people keep asking “What on earth results in these repeated tragedies?” A brief survey of them reveals that human factors still prove to be the leading causes. For example three of these fires were caused by the students’ use of electric waterheaters. As students often leave the heaters unattended the risks are rather high should the water in the bottle boil dry while no one is around to turn off the power. In other cases fires were also caused by stoves candles cigarette butts etc. Since most of these disasters could have been prevented if proper precautions had been taken students should be better educated on the importance and measures of fire control. The following three reminders are of particular importance for us students: First learn how to use a fireextinguisher. Second doublecheck candles heaters stoves and other electric appliances and make sure there are no open flames before leaving rooms. Lastly do not smoke in the dorm.

　　回顾自己15年来在英语教学中的点点滴滴，感觉并没有什么绝对行之有效的“教学经验”，有的只是自己尽职尽责的工作态度，严格而灵活的教学方法。总之一句话，在英语教学中要想取得好成绩，就是“种瓜得瓜，种豆得豆”，成绩和平时心血的付出是成正比的。英语教学工作包含的内容太广泛，以下是自己在英语教学实践中的一些做法和感悟，有不当之处，请各位多批评指正。

　　1、建立良好的师生关系，做一名学生喜欢的英语老师

　　英语教学中，我感受最深的是，学生在成长过程中，需要知识，更需要关爱，关爱是一份情感，也是一份责任，作为英语老师，除了要有精湛的业务水平、敬业的精神、全面的知识，更重要的是在传道授业解惑时，做到爱生如子。人与人之间的感情是相互的，学生虽小，但他们都有着一颗敏感而真诚的心，只要你真心关爱他们，他们一定会有令你惊喜的`回报。“亲其师而信其道”，只有让学生喜欢你，他们才会信任你，向着你引导的方向发展。

　　在多年的英语教学中，我学会激励自卑的学生，点拨后进的学生，暗示自负的学生，发现特殊的学生，服务每一个学生，关爱所有的学生，用心去与学生交流，用爱去抚慰心灵，构建师生平等，关系和谐，共同进步的求知家园。

　　2、狠抓英语课堂教学，构建“和谐高效、思维对话”型英语课堂

　　现在正处于应试教育向素质教育转轨时期，既要求减轻负担，又要求提高教育质量，这就要求我必须在英语课堂上下功夫，提高英语课堂教学效率，我通常注重以下几个方面：

　　1、认真备课

　　大家都知道，备好课是上好课的前提，备课包括三方面，备教材、备学生、备教法。备教材。我总是提前翻阅各种材料、教师用书、学习资料及以往的相应试题，对于哪些是重点难点，哪些知识点扩展到什么程度，会以什么形式出题，做到心中有数。备学生，就是要了解学生的年龄特点、接受能力、知识储备情况，这样可以避免起点太高，学生听不懂，或起点太低，学生感到无聊的情况。备教法。每一级每个班学生特点各不相同，所以我非常注重仔细研究学生，采取适合学生的方法导入新课，用学生易于掌握的方法讲解新知，用学生感兴趣的方法组织课堂活动。

　　2、用激情带动学生，焕发英语课堂活力

　　我要求自己在备好课的基础上，每节英语课都满怀热情地走进教室，哪怕身体不适、满心烦恼，在站上讲台，面向学生的那一刻，我都会面带笑容，精神抖擞，讲课时也是充满激情，抑扬顿挫。因为快乐的情绪可以传染，如果你把快乐的情绪、积极地心态传染给学生，他的英语学习效率可能会成倍增长。

　　3、关注每个学生，提高课堂凝聚力

　　讲课时，我的视线遍布每个角落，始终用眼光爱抚每个学生，学生的每个动作和眼神都逃不过我的眼睛，并且与学生进行眼神的交流，久而久之，每个学生都会感到老师一直在关注我，从而使他们集中注意力，认真听讲。

　　4、精讲多练，提高英语课堂效率

　　初中生的注意力集中时间只能持续十五到二十分钟。如果英语老师是“一张嘴，一支笔，从上课讲到下课。”的教学模式，就会出现“老师讲得天花乱坠，学生听得昏昏欲睡”的现象。新课程理念要求我们重视学生在课堂上的主体地位，少讲多练。少讲并不意味着粗略讲解，一带而过。初中生的接受能力还是有限的，对于重难点的知识，我会根据学生特点细致的讲解，多举例，多操练，讲一点，练一点，讲练结合，让大多数学生都能跟上，参与活动。讲得太粗太快，学生跟不上，学不会，久而久之，就会慢慢失去学习兴趣。俗话说“庄稼齐了才打粮”，只照顾尖子生，不符合素质教育的理念。一定要面向全体学生，才会取得良好的英语教学效果

　　沙尘暴是我国北方地区春季日益频繁发生的一种恶劣天气。虽然我才13岁，但也经历过多次了。

　　我想大家对上月发生的沙尘暴记忆犹新，它席卷了11个省，给我国造成了很大的损失。

　　正如您从电视上看到的，沙尘暴所到之处，狂风卷着黄沙和尘土肆劣横行，有时候一些大树都被从中间吹倒了。鸟儿失去他们的家园，孩子们也找不到回家的路，就像到了世界末日。

　　当沙尘暴发生时，我们的教室也充满了沙尘。可怜的.老师，尽管已饱受粉笔灰之苦，现在又不得不待在灰尘中。可怜的同学们，他们告诉我简直都要窒息了!

　　我们热爱美丽的春天，我们珍爱明媚的阳光。但是沙尘暴给这些蒙上了阴影，我们知道，沙尘暴是大自然母亲对我们破坏生态劣行的惩罚。要重新看到蔚蓝的天空和明媚的春光，我们必须绿化山川，保护环境。如果我们现在就开始，还不晚。

I want to live in a world where we dont have such low expectations of disabled people that we are congratulated for getting out of bed and remembering our own names in the morning. I want to live in a world where we value genuine achievement for disabled people, and I want to live in a world where a kid in year 11 in a Melbourne high school is not one bit surprised that his new teacher is a wheelchair user. Second the government should make some measure to punish the industry which is not deal with the pollution well. Protecting the environment needs everyone’s effort to ourselves and our offspring’s health we must take action to protect the environment. Stepping into the new century environment pollution has become more serious than ever since. There are different kinds of pollution. Such as water pollution air pollution and noise pollution and so on. It seems that we live on a planet which is full of pollution. where all these pollution comes from? To a large extend the environmental destruction is the heavy price that we pay for the rapid development of economy and the growing population. In order to have more fuel people cut down trees and dig more corals. But the growing needs for energy are hardly to meet. Countless private cars on the street the gas stations are short of gasoline even the government has raise the price so many times in order to control the needs of gasoline but it’s still not working. Overusing the natural resources has already affected the ecological balance. However the factories still release the toxic air into the sky and the polluted water into the rivers. People still lack of the conscious of protecting the environment. I think it’s time for all of us to do something. The government should put forward some more strict laws to prevent the environment from being further polluted. And they should let people know more about the importance of environment protection. And we should find the balancebetween the economic growth and environmental protection. Plant more trees in the deserts and stop cutting down the forest. Forbid the factories to pour the waste water into the rivers directly. Encourage people to use public transportations to work. Both government and ordinary people should join hands together to make our home clean and fresh again. Only in this way our earth could be a better place to live in.
